Independence Day Depot Preview

The Santa Fe Trail Center, Larned, will celebrate Independence Day on Monday, July 4 with a special preview of the interior renovation of the Frizell Railroad Depot on the Trail Center’s grounds.  A grand opening will be held later in the year when the work is complete, but because so may have expressed interest in what has been accomplished to date this preview will be offered as part of the Trail Center’s celebration on July 4.  Staff members will be inside the depot to explain the renovation and interpretation goals to visitors.  There will be no admission to tour the buildings on the museum’s grounds that day and admission to the inside galleries will be offered at ½ price. 

Other activities at the Trail Center on July 4 will include a hands-on display of children’s games from the late 1800s.  Come play and learn about the origins of some popular settlement era games.  In addition the Trail Center gift shop will have grab bags available for sale while supplies last.

With museum admission reduced to half price on July 4th this is an excellent opportunity to view the Trail Center’s special temporary exhibit “Music from the Pawnee.”  This popular exhibition will be up through the end of July.

The Santa Fe Trail Center presents:

Caring for Your Keepsakes

The Santa Fe Trail Center, Larned, invites the public to a presentation on Caring for Your Keepsakes. The presentation will be given by the Santa Fe Trail Center’s educator/archivist, Terry Wickstrum. Visitors will learn about easy ways to better preserve and display their keepsakes. The program will be held in the Trail Center’s auditorium at 2:00p.m. on Sunday, June 19.

Everyone has something special – a letter, photograph, wedding dress, or medal – that reminds them of a friend or relative. Maybe you want to display it for family and friends to enjoy. Maybe you want to keep it safe to pass on to your children or grandchildren. Come out and learn how best to care for your something special.

Admission to this program, and all third Sunday of the month programs, is half price: Adults - $2.00, Students ages 12 to 18 - $1.50, Children ages 6 to 11 - $0.75, Fort Larned Historical Society members – Free.

The Santa Fe Trail Center is located 2 miles west of Larned on Hwy K-156.
